INDUSTRY INSIGHT // The Nether-World of The Netherlands - Amsterdam's Underground Techno Scene

As a young teenage student in Amsterdam, my first experiences of the 'underground'—the clubbing scene and the diversified nightlife—consisted primarily of techno raves and clubs. Having not been initially exposed to techno as a mainstream form of media, it was an element of the 'going out' scene that appeared new and refreshing to me. My own experiences, originating from a small town in England, contrived a music setting that revolved around indie gigs at pubs and Drum N Bass variations. Techno music as an overall statement was seemingly not as readily available, or at least not a popular form of both background and foreground noise. By default, it was enticing and new and gave the feeling of wanting to experience...

INDUSTRY INSIGHT // Amsterdam, Nightlife, and COVID-19: The Uprising Of The Rave

With it, came a blunt and deadening end to an innately characteristic trait of Amsterdam: its eclectic and diverse nightlife scene. As much as this similar uncertainty was shared by many globally, Amsterdam’s clubs and venues, by some degree, have taken a particularly hard hit over the past two years. As much as the pressure to follow governmental restrictions was rightly focused upon the importance of the health guidelines, at times, it...

LIVE REVIEW // SLS Presents Sergio Selva, Fukushima Dolphin, and Lisa Lo @ The Hope and Ruin

On Thursday 10th March 2022, South Lanes Studios took over The Hope and Ruin with a gig that’s been two years in the making. A recurrent theme in the lives of artists in the post-COVID-19 era, rain checks on gigs are a by-product of the new normal. Facing an audience who’ve waited close to 730 days to see you on stage is enough to cause anxiety in even the most seasoned of performers. However, Sergio Selva did not miss a beat and gave us an electric night of soulful serenading with the help of two incredible support acts.   LISA LO First on the lineup was Lisa Lo. Armed with Pianist Dave Bryce by her side, Lisa won the room...
